CASCADA DE TAMUL, MEXICO

Cascada de Tamul is by far the most spectacular waterfall in Huasteca Potosina and possibly in all of Mexico. It towers several hundred feet high and opens up like a river delta before plunging down to the river below.

Visitors can reach the waterfall from the north by dirt road leaving El Naranjito. A 20 minute hike along the river will lead to the top of the waterfall where several swimming holes and a viewing platform allow guests to get a good view of the falls. For those that fancy a boat ride to the bottom of the falls, guided tours to the east side depart from nearby La Morena.

Those that hike to the top of the waterfall can still reach the bottom by way of another hiking trail located on the west side of the falls near one of the main swimming pools. The trail includes two ladders with handrails as pictured below.

Upon reaching the bottom, an open but rocky area allows for a great view which really puts the magnitude of the waterfall into perspective. Even at a good distance, the wind and the mist from the sheer force of the falling water can be felt.
